Title workshop: Experienced powerful voices
Abstract
In the workshop " Experienced powerful voices" we will explain how community based sociotherapy (CBS) as implemented in post-genocide Rwanda empowers people to regain their voice - a voice they had lost due to their experiences with a painful past. Having their voice back enables them to share with others their daily distress, some of this distress often being generated by the genocide and its aftermath. Their sharing in the circle of a group results in building resilience and together finding ways to lay the ground for a peaceful future for the generations after. We will explore the relevance of the CBS approach for also other settings. In addition, by interviewing each other we will explore how resilience has been part of our lives. By sharing our insights we will discuss what may enable older women doctors, even though retired from regular work, make their voices heard.
